First steps for any cat poisoning
- Remove your cat from the source and take away any remaining product.
- Keep the packaging or take a photo of the label and ingredients.
- Estimate the amount and time it was eaten, and know your cat's weight.
- Call your vet or a poison line before trying anything at home.
- Do not induce vomiting unless a vet tells you to. It is dangerous with sharp objects, caustic products, oils and in a drowsy pet, and hydrogen peroxide is not safe for cats.
When to go straight to the emergency vet
- Trouble breathing, pale or blue gums, or collapse
- Seizures, tremors or severe wobbliness
- Repeated vomiting, or vomiting blood
- A swollen, painful belly
- Any known ingestion of a highly toxic item, even with no signs yet
